Reflection Friday

Happy Friday!  Since this blog is fresh and new I figure I will try out some ideas that maybe I will implement on a regular basis, "blog staples" if you will.  I'm thinking we could call Fridays "Reflection Friday" and we will maybe talk about experiences or things we learned on the previous week.  So here is installment numeral uno of REFLECTION FRIDAY!!

Project Run & Play

Puff Polka Dot Popover Remix-PR&P Season 7
I submitted my sew along entry just shy of an hour before "closing time!!"  Talk about stressful-whewww! I sewed along a couple weeks of last season for the first time ever and apart from my time management skills needing a tweak I really enjoyed it so I thought why not try to do what I can this season?

Project Run & Play--Week 5 Men's Dress Shirt Refashion

Week 5--Men's Dress Shirt Refashion--How exciting!  I spent nearly my entire week trying to determine a plan, a design and do research.  I ended up putting this look together on Thursday night with finishing touches done on Friday morning--yes...down to the wire!  All in all I believe it turned out well and as a new and basically self taught sewer, I think I did a good job and stepped outside of the box.  My first thoughts were dress but I was thinking that was too obvious so I needed to come with something better than that.  I decided to combine my love for color-blocking (which I had never done) and peplums.

Blogtember!!!

I am late to the party but in my defense I just found out about 'Blogtember!!'  It is a month long pledge to basically post to your blog more actively and it is a "challenge" issued by Story of My Life.  Who am I to see a challenge and just turn a blind eye?  NEVER!  So although it is now September 11th (NEVER forget!), I am going to start now and of course I am going to start with the "assignment" from a day or so ago which is to Take this short personality test and respond to your results.  This assignment was referred to as "day 5" of Blogtember and I believe they are now on Day 7--oops!  Better late than never!

So I took the test, yesterday actually and could not blog about it until today.  My results?  Are you at the edge of your seat to find out what is going on with THIS here personality?

Fabulous Knock Off

So i haven't written in such a long time! its as if I've taken the entire summer off from blogging and from organized sew-a-long type sewing. Although I stopped writing, I never stopped reading and I've been noticing some nice new blogs popping up and quickly gaining momentum-maybe I can hitch a ride in that direction if I get back to it now-haha!

Today I want to share my first completed 'knock off'!

A Long Time-Does Absence Make the Heart Grow Fonder?

Good Morning!! It has been a long time since I've updated this blog and there were a variety of reasons behind that, one being that I have two toddlers nearly at their 2nd birthday and that my friends in itself is a full time job! I've had no "efficient" time to sew at all meaning if I find a small space of time I'm too exhausted usually to have that time amount to something productive.

Thankfully, over the last few days I've decided to commit to a new lifestyle plan and I'm hoping among other things it will renew my energy. I'm looking forward to getting back to my machine and starting to participate again in the sew alongside around the blog world! It seems in my absence I've lost some of the fellow blogger cyber 'friends' I worked so hard to acquire :-( without even explanation. Oh well I guess everything happens for a reason and for the good so I'll just use it as my motivation to climb higher!

So be on the lookout for new, more regular posts and spread the word to bring some attention to this blog as I try to revive it with a little TLC and CPR!!

Happy Sewing!!

KCW Spring 2013- Days 4, 5 &6

Day 6 of KCW Spring 2013 is coming to a close.  This week has FLOWN by and for me, in my particular circumstances I think it's been pretty productive.  Of course we all hit bumps in the road and things that "glitch" and make us not as efficient as we'd sometimes like to be.  With that being said though, I think for me, I did my personal best.  So let's see what I've been doing the last few days.

KCW-Spring 2013! Days 2 & 3 combined!

So...this post comes on the morning of KCW Day 4--notice anything suspicious about my title here?  Hmmmm...

Did you know that KCW Spring 2013 has it's own Flickr Group?  You can go here KCW Spring 2013-FLICKR to check out what everyone is up to.  There are some AMAZING creations and unbelievably a LOT of finished items.  You can find everything from Submarine Pullovers to Geranium dresses, from the soon to be released Parsley Pants (can't wait!) to lots of adorable bubble shorts--stop by and check it out, inspiration overflowing for sure!

Days 2 and 3 were not really as productive as I'd have liked them to be, but they are gone so here is what I have so far:

KCW Spring 2013--Day 1 BUBBLES!!

Kid's Clothes Week is well under way, how EXCITING!  Ok, so my posts will be a day behind but I AM sewing!  The "challenge" is to sew for 1 hour per day making anything for children.  I don't always get one hour EACH day with two toddlers but this will at least make me try to strive for that-LOL!  For more details check out the new blog completely devoted to this challenge here: http://blog.kidsclothesweek.com/2013/03/kcw-spring-2013/. For day one I was excited to try out the new Bubble Dress pattern from Straight-Grain.  I was so excited, in fact that I couldn't only do one!

Sew Off Auditions!--My First Audition-DOH!

I did it!  I entered the "Sew Off" over at Nap Time Crafters!  OMG, I hope I can get in but I procrastinated so long and now I'm entry #85!!  Yes, 85!  Amy at Nap Time Crafters might not even get that far to find the 12 contestants she needs to compete, that is how good the competition is.  But, at least I submitted an entry, I can feel good about that :-)

2 out of 6 Pinterest Challenges Complete!

I have barely blogged about the Pinterest Challenge since I posted it!  I know, I was supposed to complete one challenge per week over a 6 week period and discuss but ends up I may have not realized how tough blogging really is (bowing down to all of you GREAT bloggers that I truly admire!)  Blogging is a full time job!  It seems as though it should be simple enough to just sit down and write about whatever you did or something you love but it's just not that simple.  There is a mindframe behind it which in turn motivates the writer to do what they need to do and in a timely fashion :-)  Part of my problem, I think, is that I do not have any subscribers or readers at this time and therefore little incentive I guess (in my mind) to write posts.  The other part is sheer time because I've found that being a blogger means not only posting on your own but also running ragged all over the blogosphere checking out others posts and just being a "presence".  Now before I get too off topic, let me talk about my title which is the completion of 2 of my Pinterest pins for the challenge--LOL!

Flashback Thursday

I realize I haven't posted anything in a few days.  I have been busy "lurking" other blogs which I affectionately refer to as doing my homework.  There is a LOT going on in the world of the wide web (www)--weak attempt at a nerdy joke :-)  Anyway the Sewvivor series is starting over here at Family Ever After and the Project Run & Play All-Stars is starting over here.  I'm considering sewing along with BOTH (oh gosh!)  The themes are so good with both competitions and the contestants are so great and talented with each as well, I can't wait to see what they come up with.

I've also been shopping for fabric for "Spring & Summer" wardrobes for the twins.  I want to maybe start my own challenge for myself:  30 Days of Sewing, in which I challenge myself to complete as many things on my project list as I can in a month.  I think that will be both fun and also give me more posting material to share with all of you!  Also the babies will benefit with a wardrobe, so it's a win-win-win situation.

I wanted to take the time also to post a couple of recent items that never made it here.  The first is a blazer I made for London during Project Run & Play's most recent season.  It is another color block type (can't stay away!), it is light pink with a printed jersey.  I used the "Basic Blazer" pattern over at Blank Slate Patterns and it was super easy to follow and a lot of fun to make.  Check out my girl version:

Reeeeemix!! Spring Fever Dress-PR&P

It's PARTY time over at Project Run & Play!

So, approximately a week ago Project Run & Play offered up a challenge, a pattern remix!  How fun! How could I resist?  The challenge is to remix The Spring Fever Dress by Jess at Me Sew Crazy.  First of all, what a gorgeous dress in it's original form as I LOVE a good ruffle, I'm a sucker for bibs and the fabric she used on her example dress is purple--my favorite color of all time!  Let's take a quick look at where we are starting:

Super Hero Capes!!!

Apology first:  I'm sorry that I have not posted in a while (although I currently have NO readers the need to apologize still feels needed--hahaha) I have been in a sewing 'funk' of sorts.  I think it was kind of similar to when a writer gets writer's block, I was just STUCK!  I have so many great tutorials, ideas and there are TONS of sew alongs on the web, I think I just maybe have too many inspirations and my brain just short circuited :-)  BUT, I am back and I'm going to try to 1. Boost my readership (is that a word) and followers and also 2.  Devise a posting schedule of at least some regular weekly posts and stick to them once and for all.  Ok on to the project!

I made Super Hero Capes for the twins thanks to a wonderful & easy tutorial by Marigold over at "Hideous! Dreadful! Stinky!"  I did mostly everything the way she spelled out in the tutorial with a few real minor exceptions.  First let's see how they turned out and then we will discuss the exceptions.  I think they came out pretty well!

Pinterest Challenge! Are you in?!!

With Project Run & Play over I'm feeling a little dull and purposeless despite having literally THOUSANDS of ideas I want to try, create, sew, etc. The problem then you ask?...I cannot get focused and light the fire under my bum!! I'm all over the place with ideas and frankly I just don't have the time it takes to get the 'quick finish' gratitude I need to "satisfy my soul!" Lol! Well that changes NOW!!!!

Today, in my travels, I ran into a Pinterest Challenge hosted by Merrick's Art-it's called "Sisters Share It All-Pinterest Challenge" and you can find the details here:  http://www.merricksart.com/2013/02/sisters-share-it-all-pinterest-challenge.html?showComment=1361662913110#c5501708106521514945

The idea is this--we all have 50,000 pins on our Pinterest boards-more than we could probably do in this lifetime quite frankly, haha and rather than do them, most people (GUILTY here!!) just go on and pin more ideas!! So the challenge is just that--a challenge to get you to actually look back over your pins, choose any 6 YOU want and complete them with reporting at the end of the six weeks-sounds totally doable right??!! And exciting & fun to boot! So without further adieu here are my selections:

Valentine's Day Wreath

Valentine's Day is only 2 short days away and as I looked around my house I realized I had been so caught up in keeping up with Project Run & Play that I neglected to decorate anything!!  So I feverishly scoured the craft/sewing blogs(not really) and BAM (does Emerill have this trademarked?)--stumbled upon this GORGEOUS tutorial from Sew Much Ado for making a Valentine Wreath.  I like to put wreaths up periodically for either different holidays or season changes and so this was PERFECT to grace my now naked door after Christmas :-)
